Cops say a man from Ventnor was arrested and charged after breaking into several parked cars over the weekend.

The Ventnor City Police Department says their officers were called out to the 5100 block of Winchester Avenue just after 4:00 early Saturday morning after they received a report of a person who was checking to see if doors were unlocked on parked cars.

At the scene, officers say they found 32-year-old Matthew W. Hauser of Ventnor hiding in some bushes on North Oakland Avenue.

According to police, when he was arrested, "he was found to be in possession of multiple items determined to be taken from several parked vehicles in the area, along with a weapon and CDS paraphernalia."

Hauser was charged with burglary, theft, criminal attempt, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a hypodermic syringe, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a summons pending a court hearing.

The Ventnor City Police Department has recently seen a large increase in motor vehicle burglaries and reminds all residents to please lock their vehicles. All reported car burglaries have been of vehicles that were found to be left unsecured.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
