Belmar Mayor Suspends Beach Fees on Labor Day for Hurricane Harvey Victims
Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty has suspended beach access and parking fees in Belmar on Labor Day, and is instead collecting money for Harvey relief.
NBC Philadelphia reports, residents and visitors who visit Belmar are being asked to donate to a relief effort for those in Rockport, Texas.
And the reason is just another testament to the sense of community we have in South Jersey. According to Mayor Doherty, Rockport is the almost the same size as Belmar, and there are parallels between the damage they're experiencing to the ones experienced in South Jersey during Superstorm Sandy. Naturally, this empathy is all the more reason to help.
All donations are to help with the catastrophic damage and will be delivered by Doherty himself to Rockport and its victims.
NBC Philadelphia also mentions that Belmar Borough Council intend on adopting Rockport as its sister city.
