A Closer Look at the Eagles Roster Decisions
The Eagles have set their initial 53-man roster for the upcoming 2020 NFL season.
Here are a few notable things to point out.
• The Eagles decided to move on from a pair of 2017 draft picks in the secondary, Sidney Jones and Rasul Douglas, opting instead to keep special teams ace Craig James as their No. 3 outside corner. Darius Slay and Avonte Maddox with start outside with Nickell Robey-Coleman in the slot. Cre'von LeBlanc also made the team and can play in the slot.
Jones has been hampered with injuries since being selected in the second-round. His release brings an end to a very disappointing tenure in Philadelphia. As for Douglas, a third-round pick in 2017, he never was able to find the consistency to start when given the opportunity.
Douglas was signed by the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
• Defensive end Shareef Miller was another disappointing draft pick that the Eagles parted ways with. The 2019 fourth-round pick out of Penn State played just two snaps as a rookie and was beat out by 2020 seventh-round pick Casey Toohill.
Miller signed with the Panthers on Sunday.
The team also released defensive end Joe Ostman, who the team had some high hopes for prior to last season. Ostman tore his ACL during the 2019 training camp.
• A player the Eagles are likely hoping to get through waivers and onto the practice squad is undrafted rookie defensive tackle Raequan Williams from Michigan State.
• Tight end Noah Togiai was also released on Saturday, as the team opted to go with just two tight ends on the roster. He was signed by the Colts.
