The 88th Annual Academy Awards have been announced, honoring eight films in it's Best Picture category. Here are three movies I can attest to being worth the price of admission.

    The Revenant

It's easy to assume that because this is a Leonardo DiCaprio project, that it's awards season domination is all hype. It's not. This film is a sweeping masterpiece, and worth seeing just for the bear attack scene alone. DiCaprio has about a dozen spoken lines in the whole movie, making his performance all the more compelling. You may also come away with a new respect for Native Americans.

    Room

Based on the best-selling novel by Emma Donoghue, Room gives an insider's perspective of what it would be like to be held captive and a victim's coming to accept her surrounding but never giving up the hope of escape. Room, fronted by the incredibly talented Brie Larson, is a gut-wrenching and heart-pounding tale of one woman's struggle to return to life as she knew it before she was kidnapped.

    The Big Short

The Big Short is not short on star power with the likes of Christian Bale and Ryan Gosling at the helm. Oh and a supporting role played by Brad Pitt never hurts. But its the subject matter of the film that will keep your eyes glued to the screen as four men try to warn the wolves of Wall Street of a pending collapse. Just pay close attention because some of the finance jargon may throw you for a loop. Luckily cameos by Selena Gomez and Margo Robbie make you perk up and listen closely when the serious stock market talk starts.
