Two victims have been identified after a multi-vehicle accident Monday night in the southbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike in Gloucester County.

Police say the driver of a Toyota Sienna had stopped in the left lane of the turnpike in Woolwich Twp. around 5:30 p.m. in observance of a posted lane closure.

A Volkswagen Passat behind the Sienna was struck in the rear by a Toyota Avalon being driven by 24-year-old Nishank Shaw of Woodbridge, N.J., 6abc.com reports.

The Volkswagen was pushed into the mini-van before striking a concrete barrier and bursting into flames.

Police say two passengers in the Passat, 21-year-old Rob Critelli of Summit, New Jersey and 20-year-old Christopher Calderone of Brick, New Jersey were trapped in the vehicle. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Southbound lanes of the Turnpike were closed until around 10:00 p.m.

An investigation is ongoing.
