A recent Facebook post has gone viral in social media that shows eggs at the grocery store were over 30 days old.

Whenever I go to the supermarket, I always look for the best bargains especially because I am on a budget. It's no secret that the foods with the best deals, are store-brand foods. So whenever I buy eggs, they usually are the store-brand kind. BUT, now I may have to change my mind.

According to this article by Delish, the eggs may not be as fresh as we think. A Facebook post by 'Fresh Eggs Daily' has brought to light that the FDA requires egg products to be labeled with:

  • manufacturer's name
  • official identification
  • the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) approval number
  • ingredients statement
  • net weight statement
  • nutrition information

...but there's no requirements about expiration dates!

Apparently it's up to the individual company whether or not to place expiration dates on products. So that little number you might see, is actually the day out 365 that it was packaged in a carton...then they can be stored 4-5 weeks after this date.

Pretty scary information. You can read the full story here.
