I don't like when People magazine reveals its Most Beautiful list before it hits newsstands.

I like going and buying it and seeing who made the cut with every turn of a page. But the publication has done it again, and I was actually pretty surprised at which star landed the cover!

People's Most Beautiful Person for 2014 is Lupita Nyong'o.

The newly-minted Academy Award winner for her role as Patsy in 12 Years A Slave and her symmetrically perfect face have received the coveted cover honor, which in the past has gone to women like Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, and Gwyneth Paltrow.  And the Yale alumni is not at all modest about her new title, telling People, "I was happy for all the girls who would see me on it ."

Nyong'o says that her general belief of what beauty is has evolved over the years, and it's important for her to be a role model to girls like herself, saying she first thought being beautiful meant having "light skin and long, flowing, straight hair."

Lupita became an instant favorite on the red carpet during awards season, applauded for her flawless, effortless looks.

To see what other celebrities land on the list alongside Lupita, People's Most Beautiful issue hits newsstands Friday.
