Three explosions went off this afternoon that rocked a building hard enough to force evacuation of 1,600 people in the Egg Harbor Township area near the Airport Circle.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that fire broke out around the explosions that happened around Noon time today.  1,600 employees at the William J. Hughes Technical Center were evacuated, and as of 5pm no major injuries have been reported (just a couple of firefighters recovering from heat exhaustion).

The fire and smoke was contained by 2:30pm, and most of those who were evacuated were converging at the nearby Wawa and at Christi’s Bar and Restaurant.

Word is the Tech Center (which serves as the national scientific test base for the Federal Aviation Administration) holds regular fire drills, and those drills seem to help in this chaotic situation.
