If you have long hair, like I do, chances are there is a hair-tie on your wrist right now. But you may want to change your mind after reading of this woman who suffered a severe infection from it.

Audree Kopp noticed a swelling under her skin where she wears her glittery hair-tie. Thinking it was a spider bite, she went to the doctor for antibiotics but noticed the lump continued to grow.

After going to the doctors again, they discovered she had three types of infections that were most likely transmitted through the hair-tie on her wrist. According to the doctors, bacteria had passed onto the wrist into her blood stream through the pores in the skin and hair follicles. Yikes.

So, you may want to avoid using glittery or textured hair-ties...or maybe stop wearing them on your wrist altogether.
