
Weekend Box Office — ‘The Devil Inside’ Has a Frighteningly Good Debut
Exorcism thriller ‘The Devil Inside‘ had a $34.5 million opening this weekend, strong enough to bump ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol‘ out of first place after two weeks at the top.
The Tom Cruise action flick fell to second with $20.5 million, followed by ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,’ whose $14 million haul gave it a third-place showing.
‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo‘ jumped one spot into fourth by bringing in $11.3 million, and ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked‘ rounded out the top five by selling $9.5 million in tickets.
Here’s a list of the top 10 movies at the box office Friday through Sunday with estimated grosses, along with how much each movie has made since its release:
1. ‘The Devil Inside’ – $34.5 million, new release

8. ‘The Adventures of Tintin’ – $6.6 million, $6.8 million total
9. ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy’ – $5.7 million, $10.4 million total
10. ‘New Year’s Eve’ – $3.2 million, $52 million total
