Two Killed in Crash on Ocean Drive in Lower Township

Two women are dead following a head-on crash on Ocean Drive in Lower Township Wednesday afternoon.

Police say the crash happened around 3:20 as a 35-year-old woman who was driving northbound on Ocean Drive, veered over the double yellow line and slammed head-on into a southbound vehicle being driven by a 68-year-old woman.

According to authorities, the 68-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The 35-year-old driver was unconscious and trapped inside her vehicle; once freed from the vehicle, efforts to save her life were unsuccessful.

An investigation into the crash continues, but police say it is unclear why the driver veered across the center line and into oncoming traffic. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Lower Township Police.
