The tornado that crossed portions of Cape May County on Tuesday morning has been rated an EF-1.

The National Weather Service has finished their investigation of the twister that touched down in the Marmora area as Tropical Story Isaias crossed our region Tuesday morning.

Their team says says at around 9:45 AM Tuesday,

A waterspout moved onshore with an EF1 tornado occurring with 100 MPH winds from just north of Strathmere to portions of Marmora. Significant damage to homes, businesses and trees occurred along portions of Route 9. reports the tornado was 150 yards wide and spun along a path just over 5 miles long. Their reporting also says containers were tossed-around near the Coca Cola facility on Route 9 where a truck was flipped onto its side. Several homes and outbuildings also sustained damage in the area.

Within minutes of the tornado touching down, a 72 MPH non-tornadic wind gust was reported in Ocean City.

A tornado rated an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which runs from EF-0 to EF-5, can cause "moderate damage" with winds in the 86 to 110 MPH range.
