One of America's most beloved A-list actors has revealed he's been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.  Tom Hanks broke the news through laughter during his most recent sit down with the Late Show's David Letterman.

Hanks looked as though he had shed a few lbs, something that didn't go unnoticed by.  David.  That's when Hanks revealed the unexpected reason for his weight loss.

Hanks, now 57, said he's got the condition under control, and his weight loss was part of that effort.

"My doctor said, 'Look, if you can weigh what you weighed in high school, you'll essentially be completely healthy and will not have type 2 diabetes.' And I said to her, 'Well, I'm going to have type 2 diabetes,''' Hanks joked.

Hanks was on Late Show to promote his new based-on-a-true-story movie, Captain Phillips, which hits theaters Friday.
