Three Ways To Maximize Every Drop Of Gas In New Jersey

We're all feeling the pain at the pump right now.  Every drop counts right?  I just learned about three things we can do to maximize every last drop of gas.  Of course, I had to share this with you too!

It turns out, hump day is key!  You know how people tell you to buy your airline tickets on a Tuesday at 3 pm?  If you didn’t know that it is because many airlines release weekly sales and promotions early on a Tuesday so other airlines will drop their prices to compete. Well, filling your car with gas is more economical if you do it on a Wednesday.  You probably think I’m full of it right now but it does make sense if you think about it…word on the street is, stations bump up the price before weekend travelers.  Saturday is the worst day to fill up.  Don’t believe me?  Take note of the prices on those days and you’ll say, "huh, that radio girl is onto something."

I love that we don’t have to fill our own tanks in Jersey.  I’m a proud Jersey girl and (at least for now) we don’t have to get out of our cars to pump which makes this next tip a little hairy.  You’re going to have to advise your gas station attendant to NOT top off your tank. I’m absolutely positive they won’t want your micromanaging so tread lightly.  Here is why you need to tell him that. When the gas nozzle kicks back and shuts off you should go with that because those extra pumps are only going to evaporate.  The extra squeezes do the station more good than you and if you ask me, they know that.  Imagine rounding up by a buck or two for every car…adds up and doesn’t help you a bit.

This is a tough one because we have basically become a cashless society but I know at the station near me, they will give you a discount if you pay with cash.  They are saving money because they don’t have to pay the fees associated with credit cards so some stations pass those savings along to you.
