The state assembly has approved a bill that has salt water taffy all over it.

The 'taffy bill' is being sent to State Senate, in hopes that Salt Water Taffy will be the official state candy.  But what gives this story even more flavor, is how the bill was first brought to the table.

According to NBC 40, 'Assemblyman John Wisniewski had introduced the measure at the request of some fifth-graders from Sayreville's Samsel Upper Elementary School. That followed a presentation he made to the students on how a bill becomes a law.'

The 5th graders believe that by having Salt Water Taffy as the official candy of New Jersey, tourism will increase on the Jersey Shore.  Regardless, it's an amazing project for these kids, one that they'll cherish (and taste) for the rest of their lives.
