Well, that did not take long at all. While movie ticketing and theater websites are struggling to remain running (if they are at all, and as of now, many are not), some lucky fans have already snagged more than enough tickets for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and are selling their extras on eBay — at prices that would only be reasonable to a mentally insane person. And yet, someone will buy these. Someone will spend over $400 on Star Wars tickets. What a world.

If you search around eBay right now, you will find people selling tickets to Star Wars: The Force Awakens at exorbitant prices. One user is trying to sell four tickets for $400, while another has 10 tickets listed at a starting bid of $500 and a Buy It Now price of $1,000. Both items have eBay’s little “hot item” symbol to let you know that this is a very important, popular item, as if that little flame symbol will make you forget that spending $100 for a single Star Wars ticket is worthy of a court injunction to have you involuntarily committed to your nearest and dearest loony bin.

If you thought $1,000 for 10 tickets to see Star Wars was bad, this guy is selling two tickets for $10,000.

What’s even crazier is that these pages have eBay users actively “watching” the items — I am going to assume the best of everyone here and choose to believe that these watchers are merely watching to take joy in seeing if someone will be crazy enough to buy these tickets, and for how much. The real treat will be in seeing just how much fans are willing to spend over the next few days.

And so I remind you again: you do not need to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens on opening night. You can wait a day. Or two. It will not be the end of your life.
