Atlantic City recently announced that they will temporarily allow open containers filled with alcohol on their boardwalk so restaurants can offer cocktails to go to help keep them afloat.

Now another South Jersey town might follow suit.

Cape May just recently announced that the town is seriously considering implementing this new, temporary rule and a final vote on the topic is schedule to take place TODAY!

There are two plans being proposed.

Plan A: Public alcohol consumption will be allowed on the Cape May beach, promenade, Cape May Hall and streets that are closed between 5:00 PM and 10:30 PM. Adults can only legally consume alcohol if it is in a plastic cup.

Plan B: Public alcohol consumption will be allowed on the Cape May beach, promenade, Cape May Hall, Rotary Park and designated streets between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM. (For example: the 400 block of Blank Street, Lafayette Street from Perry to Franklin and Washington Street from Perry to Washington Commons) Drinks MUST be 16-ounces or less and must be in a sealed container and would only be unsealed if in a designated drinking area. NO kegs allowed.

It sounds like Plan B is a bit more strict but no matter which plan the town decides upon, it would go into effect immediately and it will end November 1st.

Cape May is also working on a proposal that would allow outdoor shopping time slots for businesses that have no other way of doing business. The proposed slot is June 11th to June 14th to 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Once we get the final word on either of these plans, trust me you will be hearing from us.

Fingers crossed!
