LINDENWOLD — Two people were injured when a small plane crashed in a residential area of Camden County Wednesday.

Police say the crash took place in Lindenwold, on Linden Avenue at about 12:47 p.m.

During a press conference Wednesday afternoon, police and fire officials said the small aircraft, an Ercoupe 415-C, essentially split in half when it crashed and flipped over, leaving the adult male pilot and passenger hanging upside down. Fire officials say it took rescue workers about 20 minutes to free the occupants.

Both men were transported to Cooper University Hospital Trauma Center, one by medivac helicopter and one by ambulance. The fire chief said the men were conscious when firefighters arrived, but not talking. Officials say no one on the ground was injured.

According to NBC6 Action News, the plan originated from the Flying W Airport in Medford.

Lindenwold asked people to avoid the area of Linden Avenue as rescue crews and police investigated the situation. At about 3:30 p.m., police posted a tweet advising people in the area that the road was expected to re-open soon.

The Federal Aviation Administration is continuing to investigate the crash.
