Actress Anne Hathaway received some criticism after choosing a conservative pale pink Prada gown for Sunday night's Academy Awards.  Many thought it was a little too simple for someone about to be photographed holding an Oscar.  But one fashion house is disappointed the actress broke their agreement to wear their gown.

It seems 30-year old Hathaway was expected to be seen on the Oscars red carpet wearing this haute couture Valentino creation.  The actress issued an apology to the designers after initially agreeing to wear their design.

In an exclusive statement to People.com Hathaway says:

"It came to my attention late Saturday night that there would be a dress worn to the Oscars that is remarkably similar to the Valentino I had intended to wear, and so I decided it was best for all involved to change my plans".  Hathaway continues,
"Though I love the dress I did wear, it was a difficult last minute decision as I had so looked forward to wearing Valentino in honor of the deep and meaningful relationship I have enjoyed with the house and with Valentino himself.  I deeply regret any disappointment caused."

Anne Hathaway, who is styled by celebrity fashion guru Rachel Zoe, has a long standing relationship with Valentino, even wearing their design on her wedding day to husband Adam Shulman.

Maybe if she'd have stuck to her original choice she could have avoided all the attention her high beams got her.
