According to this report, warming your car up when its cold outside does more harm than good, and is completely unnecessary.

My dad is a stickler for taking good care of your car.

One of the many tips he gave me after handing over the keys to my jeep, was to always "warm up the engine" -- especially in the winter. Turns out, this wasn't a good tip!

Typically drivers like to warm their cars during the cold because we believe it protects their engine. What this actually does is waste gas an strip oil from components that are good for the car.
