Gas prices are rising at record speeds. Lately, the average price per gallon has been rising five cents per day in New Jersey.

You've probably seen or heard about examples of gas at seven dollars per gallon in California but in New Jersey?

As of this writing, the average price for a gallon of gas in Jersey was $4.37 according to GasBuddy.com.

By the way, I would bookmark Gas Buddy. This website tracks the prices of fuel all over New Jersey and the country.

Users report where to find the cheapest gas, and Gas Buddy keeps track and continuously updates its top 10 of the lowest gas prices in the Garden State.

So let's do the math. The average for gas is $4.37 and one Jersey gas station is charging $6.89 if you use credit. It's $6.79 if you're paying cash.

The first thing that popped into my head when I saw this was that this gas station is price gouging.

NJ.com spoke to a rep from AAA and they said that gouging is considered to be 10-15% over the average price of fuel in the state. Also, gas stations aren't allowed to change the price of gas more than once per day.

Well, you don't have to take out a calculator to figure out that $6.89 per gallon is way more than 15% above the Jersey average of $4.37.

Anyone that suspects that the price at a pump abuse can file a claim with the Division of Consumer Affairs via its website.

Oh, the gas station pushing the $7 per gallon mark is Exxon on Route 202 in Bedminster. They are notoriously overly priced, but this is ridiculous.

As of Friday, March 11, 2022, there were only three gas stations pumping for less than four dollars a gallon. They are in East Hanover and Cliffside Park.

With gas prices like these, only the richest will be able to drive. Here's where those people are.
