Meet Philly’s First Ever Female Play-By-Play Announcer
Kate Scott has just made history in Philadelphia, becoming the first female to be named a play-by-play announcer for a professional sports team.
Kate has just scored the coveted gig with the Philadelphia 76ers left vacant by longtime announcer Marc Zumoff, who recently retired.
Her promotion, and it's significance, hasn't gone unnoticed by Scott and her supporters. On her official Facebook page, she writes, 'I'm here because of all the women who've come before me, who had it much harder than me, who proved we deserve a shot.'
Channel 6 Action News sports anchor Jamie Apody expressed her pride for Scott on Facebook, saying, 'As someone who has taken aim at shattering that glass ceiling myself, being hired as the first female sportscaster at 6abc Action News almost 16 years ago, I can't explain what this feels like.' Apody went on to write, 'So PROUD of this franchise! This is a bold move, it's a move that probably won't come without criticism. It's a gutsy hire. But I'm CERTAIN they looked for the HUMAN who was RIGHT for the job.'
We cannot wait to listen to Kate Scott! Well done, 76ers!
