Matt Damon has been known to use his celebrity as a platform to raise awareness for serious world issues.  Today, the actor and activist makes the announcement that he's going on a 'toilet strike'.

According to EOnline.com, Damon's going to hold back from going No.1 and No.2 over a traditional toilet bowl in solidarity with the 2.5 billion people around the world who do not have access to clean water and sanitation.  And he hopes you'll join him by making a similar sacrifice at StrikeWithMe.org.

The Academy Award winner and co-founder of the international charity organization Water.org explains why he's taking his campaign out on the porcelain god:

"Does anybody have any idea what invention has saved more lives than any other in the history of humankind? The toilet," Damon said in a new video clip, answering his own question. "More people have cell phones than toilets."

Damon hopes the new video will draw attention to this extremely serious issue.  He is planning to spread the word about his strike and get an online conversation going about the global water shortage.
