Man Shot After Pulling Gun on Police in Ocean County
A 29-year old man was shot Thursday by police in Toms River after he drew a gun.
Authorities in Ocean County say officers were approaching a suspicious vehicle when Timothy Sauers, of Toms River, pointed a gun at them, according to FOX 29. The officers then opened fire.
Sauers fled and jumped into the Toms River. Police located him and transported him to a hospital. Sauers is expected to survive his gunshot wounds.
No officers were injured in the incident.
Sauers has a storied past. In 2009 he was sentenced to five years in jail for an automobile crash involving a cell phone that killed a 7-year-old girl.
This latest police shooting comes at nearly the same time five officers in Dallas, Texas were shot and murdered during peaceful Black Lives Matter protests.
