Kate Winslet Talks ‘Titanic,’ Says Jack Dawson Didn’t Have to Die
Without even meaning to, Kate Winslet has reignited one of the film industry's most intense, longstanding debates: Did Titanic's Jack Dawson really have to perish in the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean or could Rose have moved over a couple inches to help spare his life?
According to Winslet -- and an episode of Myth Busters -- Leonardo DiCaprio's Jack probably didn't have to die. "I think he could've actually fitted on that bit of door," she admitted in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel.
Winslet continued, saying it's humbling that the movie's made such a lasting impact on fans, to the point where a mere sighting of she and DiCaprio together is enough to send the blogosphere into meltdown mode, as though the two real-life actors are actually their famous onscreen counterparts.
"People are always so excited to see Leo and myself in the same space, which, you know, at the end of the day -- that's so lovely, isn't it? It's been 20 years and people still get such a kick out of it," Winslet said. "It's really quite endearing, and we do laugh about it. We were giggling about it last night. I was like, 'My God, can you actually believe that people get so overwhelmed by the Jack and Rose thing still today?'"
