The Philadelphia Phillies have hired Joe Girardi as their new manager, sources tell MLB.com. The team is expected to make an official announcement about the hiring later today, MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki tweeted on Thursday (October 24).

Girardi, meanwhile, managed the Florida Marlins in 2006 for one season before managing New York Yankees from 2009 through 2017. The Yankees won the 2009 World Series.

As the Inquirer.com reports, a search of Twitter shows that Phillies fans seem to be pleased with the decision.
