An elderly woman from the Jersey Shore lost her life over the weekend after she was hit and killed by an NJ Transit train.
The horrific incident happened just after 9:15 a.m. Sunday when 73-year-old Cynthia E. Sussman, of Belmar, reportedly crossed Church Street in Spring Lake into the railway path of the oncoming North Jersey Coast Line train, according to Patch.com.
The Bay Head-bound train had more than two dozen passengers on board at the time of the accident. No one on the train was injured as a result.
There were no details available as to whether the victim stepped in front of the train accidentally or intentionally, or if she was pronounced dead at the scene, but police continue to conduct an investigation into the tragedy.
