New Jersey Metro Classic Brings Elite Talent Stockton University
The expression “If you want something done, ask/give it to a busy person” is widely attributed to American Founding Father Benjamin Franklin.
It certainly applies to Dr. Mukesh Roy and his Committee at the Metro Classic … an annual High School basketball showcase event that brings elite boys and girls teams from around the country.
This is the first time in the event’s 14-year history that it has been held in Atlantic County, New Jersey.
Metro Classic 2025
For the first time, this iconic annual event was held at Stockton University in Galloway Township, New Jersey.
The facility, “Big Blue” as it has become known, looked and played just great.
The Stockton court, the multiple aerial score boards, the center court score board, a perfect sound system … everything about the Stockton University facilities are first class all the way.
I spent about 5 hours at the event this past Saturday. I saw both boys and girls games. The event showcased a number of players who will be receiving 4-year, Division 1 scholarships and NIL remuneration.
Kevin Boyle — Head Coach — Spire
To give you an idea of the caliber of talent that Dr. Roy has attracted to the Metro Classic, earlier this season, Spire was the # 1 team in America. They have one loss on the season and are ranked in the Top 10 in America at this time.
Head Coach Kevin Boyle is one of the most successful head boys basketball coaches in New Jersey, having near unrivaled success at St. Patrick’s High School.
His past contests with Bob Hurley and St. Anthony’s are the stuff that legends are made from.
Boyle made the move 5 years ago to Spire, which is located in Ohio. Boyle’s team played 3 games this past weekend in the Metro Classic … winning all 3 games.
Spire plays tenacious defense and has an explosive offense, with great play at every position.
Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small
Mayor Marty Small was on hand to support the showcase event. The Atlantic City High School boys team played in the 5:00 p.m. game this past Saturday night.
Small was a standout player at Atlantic City High School and he went on to have a Hall of Fame career at Stockton University. Small is still the all-time rebound leader in Stockton University history.
Small attended with his wife, La’Quetta (Atlantic City Superintendent of Public Schools) and their son, Marty, Jr.
