Ocean County Man Sentenced for Flying to Norway for Sex With Teen
An Ocean County man is headed to prison for traveling to Norway to have sex with a 14-year-old girl.
After pleading guilty last September, on Monday, 29-year-old Jacob Bauer of Toms River was sentenced to 72 months, or six years, behind bars on one count of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place.
Details of Bauer's Crime in Norway
Federal authorities say from December 1st through 10th, 2023, Bauer, then 27, traveled from the United States to Norway to engage in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl in a hotel. After returning to America, he communicated with the victim and bragged to others about his activities, all while acknowledging that she was underage.
Online Fallout
After learning of what Bauer had done, members of an online community that he was active in published his personal information online.
In addition to the prison term, Bauer will be under a decade of supervised release once he is out of prison. He is also subject to registration under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
Senior Counsel Philip W. Lamparello thanked the FBI, the New Brunswick and Manchester Township Police Departments, U.S. Embassy staffers in Denmark and Poland, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office in Georgia, INTERPOL, and several law enforcement agencies overseas for their work in this case.
Another Project Safe Childhood Case
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
