  • Prosecutors say he fired five shots into a bedroom closet, striking her
  • He now faces 20 years in state prison

An Egg Harbor Township man is facing two decades in prison for killing his girlfriend.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says last Wednesday, 53-year-old Kevin Dorsey pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter and certain persons not to possess a handgun charges.

The terms of a plea deal call for a recommended sentence of 20 years in state prison and he would be required to serve at least 17 of them before becoming eligible for parole.

What Happened on Zion Road

During the guilty plea, officials said Dorsey admitted that on the evening of October 26th, 2023, he was in his Egg Harbor Township home on the 300 block of Zion Road when he fired a revolver five times into his bedroom closet, recklessly causing the death of his girlfriend, 44-year-old Charlena Burnett, who was inside the closet.

Dorsey admitted to being prohibited from possessing a gun due to prior convictions.
