Camden County, NJ, man gets 70 years in prison for killing ex-girlfriend
A man from South Jersey will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars for killing his ex-girlfriend in 2020.
Eric Seddens of Camden, NJ, Sentenced
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office says late last week, 41-year-old Eric Seddens of Camden was sentenced to 70 years in state prison after a jury found him guilty on a charge of first-degree aggravated manslaughter.
On the night of September 29th, 2020, Seddens shot and killed his ex-girlfriend, and the mother of his child, Ashley Allen.
After fatally shooting Allen in the head, Seddens left her lying face-down in the middle of the street at 8th and Walnut in Camden.
Seddens then fled in her vehicle to Philadelphia where he hid out for a few days before taking a bus to Clearwater, FL, to evade authorities.
There, using a friend's name, he hid in a motel for about two weeks before being arrested by U.S. Marshals.
Repeat Offender
Seddens had previously been convicted of assaulting Allen in 2018 and was out on parole when he killed her.
He will be required to serve 85 percent, or almost 60 years, of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole, which means he would be about 101 years old before having the possibility of being released from prison.
The State was represented at trial by Assistant Prosecutor Shannon M. Phillips of the Camden County Prosecutor’s office. The case was investigated by Sgt. Matthew Barber with the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and Sgt. Sean Miller with the Camden County Police Department.
