Authorities in Atlantic City say tips from the public lead to the recovery of a handgun and a man being arrested.

According to the Atlantic City Police Department, on Monday information began to be submitted to tip411, the department’s anonymous texting service, about a man that placed a gun in the rear of an apartment building.

Patrol officers responded to the area of the 2800 block of Atlantic Avenue where Officer Joseph Kelly Jr. located a handgun in crawl space that was open to the public. An investigation by Officer Kelly and Sergeant Garry Stowe with assistance from Detective Christopher Dodson identified Quanife Wynn as the man that discarded the gun. A warrant was issued for the arrest of Wynn.

According to police, on Wednesday, detectives attempted to arrest Wynn at Tennessee and Atlantic Avenues. He was apprehended after he initially fled and allegedly found to be in possession of marijuana that was packaged for distribution.

23-year-old Quanife Wynn of Atlantic City has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, certain person not to possess a weapon, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest.

Wynn was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
