Atlantic City Electric: 55,000 Still in the Dark After Blizzard, Restoration Updates

Tuesday afternoon update: As of 3 PM, Atlantic City Electric crews are responding to outages impacting about 17,000 customers across the region, the majority being in Atlantic, Cape May and Burlington counties.

Crews are making significant progress in restoring service for customers. Based on current assessments and the quick mobilization of field resources, Atlantic City Electric expects the vast majority of customers to be restored by tonight and customers in the most heavily damaged areas to be restored by Friday, if not sooner.

Following Sunday and Monday's blizzard, officials with Atlantic City Electric have offered an update for the more than 50,000 customers who are without power in South Jersey.

The utility said their crews are making progress responding to widespread damage and power outages caused by the storm, which brought near-historic amounts of heavy, wet snow and wind gusts over 60 MPH, which brought down trees and branches, causing widespread damage to the local energy grid.

55,000 Still in the Dark

More than 112,000 Atlantic City Electric customers experienced service interruptions during the storm, with approximately 50 percent of customers restored. As of 4 PM Monday, approximately 55,000 customers remain without service.

The most heavily impacted areas are Cape May and Atlantic Counties.

When Service Might Be Restored

ACE said in a press release that service to many impacted customers should be fixed by tomorrow (Tuesday), with the vast majority being restored by Thursday.

Some customers in the most heavily damaged areas could require work into Saturday.

Estimated restoration times will continue to be reviewed and updated as additional damage is assessed and work is performed. Those times can be seen in the ACE app.

All available Atlantic City Electric field personnel, including more than 225 local and out-of-state contractors, are responding to restore service as quickly as possible. An additional 183 contract personnel from New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and Michigan are supporting the restoration effort with more expected over the next 18 hours.
