Officials with the South Jersey Transportation Authority are teasing a big change coming soon to Atlantic City International Airport.

That big change, in this case, is being described as a "major new commercial air service development."

In other words, is another airline getting ready to fly in and out of ACY? We shall see.

Press Conference Set for Wednesday Morning

A press conference is set for 10:00 Wednesday morning, at which time details will be released regarding "another air service expansion."

A press release that went out to members of the media Monday afternoon was very carefully worded as to not give away many details, but whatever is coming down the road (or, in this case, runway) "will significantly strengthen regional connectivity and drive long-term economic impact across the region."

It's also expected to enhance access to key cities and further position South Jersey as a competitive destination for business, tourism, and investment.

Recent Airline Additions Have Boosted Service

It was just this past summer when airport officials announced Allegiant Airlines would begin offering service at ACY. That addition gave Spirit Airlines, ACY's only carrier for a number of years, more competition.

Townsquare Media's Harry Hurley recently flew Spirit Airlines to Orlando and Allegiant back to South Jersey and had positive remarks about both experiences.

ACY, overall, tends to rate very well with air travelers as it offers a significantly less stressful flying experience compared to nearby hubs like Philadelphia and Newark.

For South Jersey travelers, Wednesday's news could mean more options and/or easier access to key destinations.
