What New Jersey Counties Are The Most Excessive Drinkers?
There is nothing wrong with enjoying a couple of adult drinks with friends and family to wind down after a long week or celebrate a life event. But indulging in too much of anything is not good and habitually doing so typically leads to bad decisions.
According to data gathered from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance system along with research from the University of Wisconsin:
-19 states have Excessive Rates of Alcoholic Consumption estimated at over 20 percent of the Adult Population in those states being classified as Heavy Drinkers, and even more may qualify as Excessive Drinkers.
-Excessive Drinking is defined as four or more drinks for women, five or more drinks for men
-Heavy Drinking is defined as eight or more drinking for women, 15 or more drinks for men
While the good news is that New Jersey falls outside the Top 20 Excessive Drinking States in America, research shows that approximately 19 percent of the Adult Population falls under the category of Heavy Drinkers.
What NJ Counties Are The Most Excessive Drinkers?
Further research from the University of Wisconsin analyzed the percentage of heavy-drinking adults per county in each state. New Jersey has 21 Counties; Eleven of The Garden State's Counties are estimated to have at least 20 percent of the Adult Population qualify as Excessive Drinkers:
*Sussex County: 24%
*Cape May County: 23%
*Monmouth County: 23%
*Gloucester County: 22%
*Hunterdon County: 22%
*Ocean County: 22%
*Warren County: 22%
*Camden County: 20%
*Hudson County: 20%
*Morris County: 20%
*Salem County: 20%
These numbers show that over 52 percent of New Jersey's Adult Population are Excessive Alcohol Drinkers. Those statistics really amplify those PSAs saying "Please Drink Responsibly" and "Don't Drink and Drive".
So the next time you go out for drinks or you attend a social event with alcoholic beverages being served, moderate your consumption with water and be aware of the people around you. Remember the old proverb that states "Excess of everything is bad".
