A longtime Emergency Medical Technician passed away Monday night unexpectedly after finishing his shift as an Egg Harbor Township EMT.

His death has shocked and saddened the South Jersey first responder community.

EHT Emergency Medical Tech Dies After Completing Shift

According to a Facebook post from Egg Harbor Township Emergency Medical Services, EMT David M. Austin died Monday night after completing his 12-hour work shift.

Austin, 52, had been an EMT for about 30 years, working in recent years with different South Jersey services and local towns before becoming a career EMT in Egg Harbor Township.

In the social media post, fellow members of the EMT squad remembered David as dedicated and having a good heart.

While Dave was quiet, he was one of the smartest guys in the room. he was a dedicated EMT and faithful friend. Dave never stopped perfecting his craft and even obtained his Paramedic certification in Pennsylvania and worked with AMR (an ambulance company)for a couple of years.

Egg Harbor Twp EMS Remembers David Austin

David's friends in the EHT EMS squad are understandably upset at the loss of their co-worker, who they remembered on Facebook.

"If you ever had the opportunity to work with Dave you are a lucky one. Dave possessed a love for helping others and he truly cared for his patients and provided the best care possible.

David was hired in November of 2022 as a full-time EMT for Egg Harbor Township. He is leaving a lasting memory and will be sorely missed. Big Heart, that came with a gentle smile.
I can speak for all our personnel, you leave us with cherished memories and some big shoes to fill. Look forward to meeting you again one day."
