How Late-Night Phone Use Is Affecting Sleep In New Jersey And Beyond
Are you someone who checks your phone right before bed and then again first thing in the morning?
If so, you're definilety not alone.
We've all heard the experts say that's the last thing we should be doing. They recommend putting the phone down hours before bedtime, and in the morning, starting the day with meditation, stretching, or a little exercise instead of scrolling.
How Your Smartphone Habits Affect Your Morning Mood
That all sounds great, but in reality, many of us have fallen into the habit of doom scrolling, and it's taking a real toll on our sleep schedules. We wake up tired and reach for our phone all over again. It's a bad cycle.

Just how many people are guilty of this? I know I am. I think scrolling can be relaxing before bed, but it's actually doing the opposite; it's keeping me up.
Experts Urge You To Ditch Screens Before Bed
According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, adults should get at least seven hours of sleep per night (which I never get, whether scrolling or not) and avoid blue light from their phones 30-60 minutes before bedtime.
However, the report shows that about 26% of adults prioritize screen time over getting the recommended amount of sleep each night.
The bottom line is that when it's time to go to sleep, they say to turn off your phone, keep it out of the bedroom, implement a routine, silence alerts, and set a schedule.
And hopefully you'll be well-rested in the morning!
