“Honey Boo Boo” Phenomenon Brings $$$ to TLC, but How Much to Her? [POLL]
Alana Thompson is the star of the surprise hit on TLC - "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo"! The show has found an audience and major buzz for a 7-yr-old and her family, but the fact is Honey Boo Boo is not getting rich off this show ..... yet?!?!
This crazy ride for the Thompson began on another TLC show - "Toddlers and Tiaras". Alana's exclamation "a dollar makes me holler, Honey Boo Boo" made her a YouTube sensation (more than 4.5 Million views) and the breakout star from the series. This spinoff has proven to be a hit, with the show's August 29th episode scoring 3 Million viewers - that topped the network's coverage of the Republican National Convention.
With TLC cleaning up, the Thompson family are getting minimal compensation for their efforts. The family, who have proclaimed they live a "redneck life" in McIntyre, Ga., will see about $40,000 for the 10 episodes (which looks to include a small "location fee" for shooting the show).
Compare Honey Boo Boo to Jon and Kate Gosselin with their 8 kids, and the pay is staggering. The Gosselin family was paid over $22,000 per episode out of the gate for "Jon & Kate Plus 8". Word is that the Duggers made even more than the Jon & Kate at their starting point with "18 Kids and Counting".
Renegotiation will be bound to happen for Honey Boo Boo's 2nd season, but how much will TLC offer? Will the Thompson family use the info that is out there to their advantage?
