While it was reported last week that the Phillies will likely use Citizens Bank Park to resume spring training whenever MLB reaches an agreement on the 2020 season. The announcement from Murphy is significant step forward for the other professional sports teams that reside in Philadelphia, but practice in New Jersey.
It means that the Sixers can open their Camden, NJ facility, and Flyers can train at their Voorhees, NJ facility once the NHL gives them the green light. The Sixers had been among 11 teams that had been prohibited to reopen their facilities as the NBA works closer to returning to resuming its season, reportedly at the Walk Disney World, Wide World of Sports in Orlando, FL. .
The Eagles meanwhile, are headquartered in Pennsylvania, which has yet to make any sort of decision on professional sports resuming.
New Jersey, North Jersey in particular has been the hotpots for the coronavirus pandemic within the United States.
Along with New York, New Jersey has one of the highest death tolls in the nation with 11,191 victims to date, but the state has been seeing the spread of the virus slow over the course of the last month.
