New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has declared a state of emergency for several counties as a result of expected severe weather conditions throughout Labor Day weekend.

Tropical Storm Hermine is likely to impact the entire New Jersey shoreline, according to National Weather Service, affecting Atlantic, Cape May, and Ocean Counties in particular. The potentially dangerous conditions led Christie to put forth a state of emergency for those counties, 6abc.com reports.

Hermine, downgraded from a Hurricane after making landfall in Florida, is slated to bring forceful winds, heavy and consistent rain. The threat of moderate to severe coastal flooding remains a serious concern, as does heavy surf and beach erosion.

Power outages may occur and impede transportation making it difficult for residents to travel and for emergency services to reach those in need.
Communities in Stone Harbor and Avalon were reportedly already recommended to voluntarily evacuate as of 11 a.m. Saturday morning.
