While most retail chains have scaled back hours or closed entirely amid the outbreak of coronavirus, employees at GameStop claim they are being made to stay open.

According to the website IGN.com, GameStop employees are complaining that the chain's managers and corporate execs won't budge on closing. GameStop even confirmed to IGN they consider themselves “essential” businesses.

In a statement, GameStop writes:

Due to the products we carry that enable and enhance our customers’ experience in working from home, we believe GameStop is classified as essential retail and therefore is able to remain open during this time.

Employees have also blown the whistle on an internal memo that states, “We have received reports of local authorities visiting stores in an attempt to enforce closure despite our classification.", reportedly encouraging employees and store managers to challenge law enforcement.

This is just plain stupid, in my opinion. I'd even call it reckless behavior. What we have at home will just have to do until the coronavirus danger has lifted.
