The Eagles have needed a backup quarterback in each of the past two season, so they know how important having a solid backup can be.

So they drafted one in Round 2 of the 2020 NFL draft taking Oklahoma signal-caller Jalen Hurts.

"This is insurance, the Eagles have always invested heavy in the backup quarterback," Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network stated during ESPN's NFL Draft coverage.

The former Alabama quarterback has done nothing but win during his college career and was the SEC freshman of the year in 2016. He later transferred to Oklahoma and

"When you look at this guy, he is a winner, no matter where he's been, no matter what you ask him to do," said Kurt Warner during ESPN's draft coverage. "He reminds me of Russell Wilson, he can make plays, with his legs and his arm."

Hurts led college football, including running backs, in red zone rushing touchdowns (17) last season, meaning he could have a role in the Eagles red zone offense in some capacity in 2020.

Knowing the Eagles need for QB insurance with Carson Wentz's injury history, the pick has some merit, but is there were definitely players that could help the team in 2020 available.

Wentz welcomed Hurts to the team in a tweet on Friday night.
