The Eagles cut ties with one of their longest tenured players on Thursday, releasing former first-round pick, Fletcher Cox, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

However, per Garafolo, it might not be the end of Cox tenure with the team, as he was set to have $18 million become guaranteed at 4PM ET on Thursday and could come back at a lower price.

Garafolo reports "the team and his representatives continue to have discussions about a possible return."

The move will be designed as a post-June 1 release, which will free up a little over $2 million in cap space after June 1.

He's due over $23 million in bonuses over the next two seasons from the $102.6 million extension that was signed in 2016.

Cox play has declined over the past seasons, and with Javon Hargrave and Milton Williams looking to get more snaps, his role could take a hit even if he does return at  a discounted rate.

Cox will be 32 this coming season and made 45 tackles and 3.5 sacks for the Eagles in 2021.
