Drunk Guy Crashes Car Into Ocean County Indoor Pool

I've seen a lot of stupid things in my time, but this may be the most uniquely stupid thing I have ever seen. Luckily, no one was injured because of the driver's stupidity.

A man driving drunk In Ocean County on Saturday afternoon left the road and crashed into a building that houses a swim school and - yes, you guessed it - drove his silver Nissan right into the pool.

Island Heights Police identified the driver as 52-year-old Robert Bjorklund of Seaside Heights.

In a Facebook post, the Island Heights Vol. Fire Company 1 said they received a call at 5:22 pm Saturday for a vehicle into a building.

They were dispatched to the Pied Piper Swim School on Rt. 37 where they realized that the driver had driven through the exterior wall of the swim school and right into the pool. Fortunately, no one was in the pool at the time or in the path of the car as it was driven through the wall.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured and was out of the car by the time our crews arrived. In order to remove the vehicle from the pool we had to open up the side wall of the building with the assistance of the Toms River Special Operations Team who helped us stabilize and remove pieces of the wall. Once the wall was opened up a tow truck wrecker was able to pull the vehicle from the pool and out of the building.

 

The Ocean County Scanner News reports that the driver was actually pulled out of the vehicle safe and sound by a bystander.

Police confirmed Bjorklund was not injured but he failed a sobriety test.

He was charged for driving while under the influence, issued multiple summonses, and was arrested, processed, and released pending a future court date.
