Cops: Rio Grande Tractor Supply Worker Assaulted, Kidnapped; Man Arrested
Cops in Middle Township say a man has been arrested after he allegedly assaulted and kidnapped a cashier at a store last weekend.
The Middle Township Police Department says the scene unfolded around 12:15 Sunday afternoon at Tractor Supply just off of the intersection of Routes 9 and 47 in Rio Grande after they received a call about a man, later identified as 34-year-old Clifford Kellogg of Erma, holding a woman who works at the store hostage.
According to authorities,
"The victim, age 25 of Dennis Township, who is a cashier at Tractor Supply and did not know Kellogg, was ringing customers up at the cash register when Kellogg entered the cashier vestibule and grabbed her around her neck with his arm. Kellogg then drug her from the vestibule to the front of the store."
Police say the victim was able to break free from Kellogg just before officers arrived at the store.
While being arrested, Kellogg struggled with officers, according to a press release; two officers received minor injuries.
Kellogg has been charged with second-degree kidnapping, second-degree aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and two counts of aggravated assault against law enforcement. He is currently being held in the Cape May County Correctional Facility.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
