Confirmed: Tornado in Millville Wednesday Evening

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched-down in Millville Wednesday evening.

Following an investigation, a EF0 tornado (the weakest on a scale from 0 to 5) with winds of 70 MPH was on the ground from 6:40 to 6:41 PM Wednesday near a field of solar panels next to the Millville City Sewer Department Facility located off of Route 47 at Fowser Road. The damage path was 0.1-mile long and about 10 yards wide.

The National Weather Service says several rows of solar panels sustained damage either from the tornado or from falling debris and a couple rows of panels were destroyed. The tornado continued into a wooded area where one tree was snapped before it quickly lifted.

No injuries were reported from this tornado.

In addition to the Millville storm, another tornado briefly touched-down in Hightstown, Mercer County, Wednesday which significantly damaged a glass greenhouse. A third tornado briefly struck Springfield, Union County.

Chief Meteorologist Dan Zarrow says with Wednesday's storms, New Jersey has, so far, seen eight tornadoes in 2019. This is the first time since October 27, 2003, that three or more tornadoes touched down in one day in the Garden State. The last time we had eight or more tornadoes in one year was 1990.
