Cherry Hill Native Nominated for Emmy Award

Ever heard of the TV show 'Lauren Lake's Paternity Court'? Well, it earned one of the shows producers, a South Jersey native, a Daytime Emmy nomination.

Deborah Whitcas is from Cherry Hill, and a graduate of Cherry Hill West High School, has reportedly called Los Angeles home for the last two decades, according to Courier Post. This past Friday, she was up for her third Emmy as part of the team behind 'Paternity Court' but she lost to 'The People's Court'.

Even though Whitcas lost this Emmy, her shelf isn't empty. She won a Daytime Emmy in 2016 for her work on the CBS show 'Lucky Dog'. Whitcas has actually been nominated six times over her career.

Deborah's career in television production began after college, through an internship on 'Jerry Springer'. She tells Courier Post, 'So I moved to Chicago right after college and did the internship there and got hired as a part-time researcher, production assistant and worked my way up. I was in Chicago for three years. When I left the show, a couple friends were moving to L.A. I was like, I’m either going to New York or L.A. I just decided to jump on the bandwagon with them and I came to L.A. and I’ve been here ever since.'

Like many of us who grew up in South Jersey during the 1980's, Whitcas found her love for TV watching the locally-produced 'Dance Party, U.S.A.', a dance/variety show that once featured Kelly Ripa.

We're sorry Deborah didn't win this Emmy, but she definitely continues to make South Jersey proud.
