Apparent Suicide Causes Delay of Ventnor Christmas Parade

A man's apparent suicide on Saturday afternoon just prior to the scheduled beginning of the annual Ventnor Christmas Parade, caused a short delay in the start of the parade as police checked to make sure there was no danger to anyone.

According to a release from Ventnor Police, they received a 911 call at 4:08 pm on Saturday, Dec. 3 that a man had been shot at the apartment and condo building at 6303 Ventnor Avenue.

Responding officers found a 27-year-old man with a gunshot wound. The man was transported by the Ventnor City Fire Department to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Atlantic City where he died a short time later.

Police say that the gunshot wound appeared to be self-inflicted. The shooting investigation is being conducted by Ventnor City Police Detective Sergeant Peter Munizza and Detective Kevin Brady, according to the release.

The Ventnor Christmas Parade, scheduled to begin at 5 pm on Ventnor Avenue, was delayed for about 15 minutes while police made sure the situation was safe for the parade to be held.
