Cops in Absecon say a woman is in critical condition following an accident on Route 30 Monday afternoon.

The Absecon Police Department says their officers responded to Route 30 just west of the Delilah Road overpass at about 3:45 PM Monday for the report of an accident with entrapment.

Police say the woman, only identified as being from Atlantic City, was injured when her vehicle left the road and struck the barrier in the median.

There were small children, ranging from ages 1 to 3, in the vehicle. The children sustained minor injuries, however, the driver had to be extricated by the Absecon Fire Department.

The driver and children were rushed to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center by Absecon Emergency Services.

Police were at the scene of the crash for nearly five hours Monday afternoon and evening. They say an investigation into the accident continues, however, "speed is believed to be a contributing factor."
