An 800-pound leatherback turtle that got trapped in fishing gear 30 miles off the coast of Atlantic City has a new lease on life after good Samaritans spotted the reptile and called for help.

The Cape May Coast Guard Station and the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine freed the tangled reptile Saturday.

A recreational fishing boat first spotted the turtle and notified the Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay, 6abc.com reports.

A member of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center got a ride from the Coast Guard Station Atlantic City. They used the coordinates given by the fishing boat to locate the distressed turtle.

They traveled to the GPS coordinates provided by the Good Samaritan and located the entangled turtle.
